just a poem by Cassie-Leigh Stock
I've been asked this question, black & white,
With shades of gray: do pit bulls fight?
Yes, they fight.
My pit bulls fight.
My pit bulls fight stereotypes;
Every time they're out in public, demonstrating their gentlemanly manners while people yank strollers out of our way...
My pit bulls fight.
My pit bulls fight ignorance;
They fight to break through pre-conceived notions & hysteric, media-fed pictionary regarding their breeds...
My pit bulls are proud. They walk with grace & confidence, secure in that they are loved, blissfully unaware of the ignorance that surrounds them, and still, they are fighting it, continuously shedding their light...
Do pit bulls fight?
Yes, my pit bulls fight.
My pit bulls fight discrimination;
They have had to respond to countless irrational reactions from a rude, uneducated public... The Wendy's server through a drive-through window... the negligent dog owner terrorizing the Reservoir... the irrational former neighbor more aggressive than my dogs could ever be...
And in the face of all this, regardless the slight,
With gentle strength & quiet dignity, without aggression, my pit bulls fight.
Do pit bulls fight, you say?
Yes, my pit bulls fight.
My pit bulls fight malice.
Regardless of ill intent, they hold their heads high, tails wagging with all their swagger, and turn the other cheek to those who hate... quite literally at times. They smile their pit bull smiles & hold no grudges.
They don't know they're "scary," "red," or "blue," or "black & white."
They know they are allies. They are my family.
You asked, and yes, my pit bulls fight.
